Felicity's opinion of independent vs hospital courses

A lot of my friends went to birth class at the hospital and by the sounds of it they were nothing in comparison to Julie's class. We travelled from the Inner West to Julie's class as we heard it was much better than other classes.

The differences are Julie is obviously very passionate and informed about birth and all the choices available, not just doing the job in one of the hospitals and teaching people their policies.

We got to share with other expectant parents our worries or concerns about the birth and parenting under the guidance of Julie. She taught us about all the choices and options you have in giving birth with lots of anecdotal examples of births.

Julie has an amazing library of books and DVD's. So whatever you are interested in she has got it. We borrowed DVD’s and books on birth and parenting.
She also gave us handouts in a workbook she’d created that were great during the pregnancy and we extremely useful during the labour to work out what stage we were in. I haven't heard of any other class where you get access to such great resources.

Before we went to class we were probably a bit nervous about giving birth, after the classes we felt really well prepared for the labour and confident in knowing what happens and what choices we have along the way. I have talked to friends after their births and they have said they didn't know they could have chosen to do things differently and were a bit annoyed that no-one told them, despite having attended the hospital birth classes.
The birth of our baby girl was the most beautiful event of our lives and we are happy with the informed choices we made in having her and I think being confident and in control of the birth was probably the best preparation into parenthood we could have had.

 thanks Julie,

regards,

Felicity
