The Transition into Parenthood preparation sessions address the questions expectant parents ask. Perhaps you have been wondering about such issues as:

  • How can I nurture myself and my baby during my pregnancy?
  • How does my baby grow and change before being born?
  • How can I minimise complications, health risks and discomforts throughout pregnancy?
  • How can partners prepare for their role during the labour, birth and beyond?
  • How will I know when my labour begins and what to do?
  • What types of self-help coping techniques can I use to keep birth normal and avoid unnecessary interventions?
  • What facilities are available and what options should I consider when making choices?
  • How can I prepare siblings for the arrival of a new family member?
  • What do I need to do to care for my newborn baby?

This course, especially designed for those having their first baby, will help you to feel more ready, prepared and organised for your Transition into Parenthood. Running over six weekly evening sessions, there is plenty of time for each topic, your questions, and laughter, in a small group.  Julie is a highly skilled childbirth educator, and in a positive, reassuring, fun and inspiring way, she is able to deliver the following topics to you in a way that is both interesting and effective, so when the time comes you feel well prepared and more confident. The course covers preparation for active birth, self-help comfort measures, useful strategies for support partners to use during labour, relaxation breathing, positioning, and includes a special focus on skills and techniques for keeping birth normal and the best use of facilities both at home, in the birth centre and in the delivery suite such as showers, baths and heat packs etc. The course also focuses on how to avoid or minimise any medical intervention that may be unnecessary. Suitable from 20 weeks.

The sessions also cover parenting in the newborn period, to help you feel more ready, prepared and organised for birth and looking after your baby. Julie has been helping couples to feel more prepared for over 20 years, with compassion and sensitivity. Julie is a very skilled educator ensuring her sessions will meet your needs, are inspiring and definitely not boring.
